The Deer River Lions Club sponsors the Deer River Wild Rice Festival
in July each summer. This festival has become a time to meet old
friends as well as participate in the many activities provided.
What's a festival without food? Whether your preference is wild rice
hotdish, turkey, hamburgers, or turtle stew, there is a lot of good food
as church groups and others prepare traditional meals each year.
A large flea market has become part of the festival. There are all types
of contest - from the Wild Rice Medallion hunt to baking contests.
Sports fans will find a range of activites in which to participate or
watch - the Wild Rice Run (or walk), softball and golf tournaments
and the alumni football game to mention a few.
There are a wide variety of activities going on all weekend.
From The Sportsman's Club Turtle Feed on Friday throught the Variety Show
on Sunday; from the kiddy sawdust scramble to the Vets Club beer gardens;
this weekend provides something for everyone. The parade on Sunday, with
its colorful floats, is well attended and is one of the highlights of
this celebration.
Look at some of the articles and pictures from past festivals on this
site. This year's schedule will be listed as soon as it is available.
Make sure to reserve at least part of this weekend to participate in the
Wild Rice Festival in Deer River!
