Deer River is in Itasca County, in the northern third of Minnesota. Deer River is the gateway to the Chippewa National
Forest. The forest boundry encompasses 1.6 million acres of Aspen, Birch, Pines, Balsam Firs and Maple
trees. Water is aboundant in the Chippewa with over 1300 lakes, 923 miles of rivers and streams and 400,000 acres of
wetlands. The Chippewa has over 300 miles of canoe trails, 180 miles of hiking and biking trails and more than 2000 known
historical sites. The Chippewa is home to the largest breeding population of Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states.
